In the end, perhaps we can\u2019t escape the question:
\u201cWho are we living for?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Living for yourself is important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But sometimes, the moment you begin wishing for someone else\u2019s happiness, the meaning of your own life changes just a little.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You meet someone.
You fall in love with someone.
You begin to want to protect someone.
You begin to hope for someone\u2019s future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I think there is something incredibly mysterious about that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why that person?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why at that particular moment?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If things had happened just a little differently, perhaps you never would have met at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When I think about it that way, there are so many things in life that feel too mysterious to simply call them \u201ccoincidence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I often think about the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Being able to sense or glimpse something about the future is not the same as being able to freely choose it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even when something seems visible, that doesn\u2019t mean everything is visible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And sometimes, the future that is hardest to see is our own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maybe that is what makes life so fascinating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We don\u2019t simply walk along a future that has already been decided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In every moment, we make choices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Who will we value?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whose happiness will we wish for?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And how will we choose to live our own lives?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I don\u2019t think of \u201cfate\u201d as meaning that everything was decided from the very beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is coincidence.
There are choices.
There are encounters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And perhaps what we call \u201cfate\u201d is created somewhere along the way, through the countless things that come together to shape our lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That is why I keep doing what I can, right here, right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I may not be able to change someone\u2019s life, but perhaps I can make someone\u2019s day just a little brighter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I may not be able to decide someone else\u2019s future, but perhaps I can become a small reason for them to believe that they can choose their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Life for you.
